Brief Biography
Dr. Indra Narang completed medical school and pediatric training in England, U.K. She completed a pulmonary fellowship program between London, UK and SickKids, Toronto. Dr. Narang has also undertaken a 3-year clinical research project in pediatric pulmonology for which she was awarded her doctoral thesis.
Dr. Narang was working as a staff pulmonologist at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London prior to her appointment in Toronto.
Clinical Care Activities
- Paediatric Pulmonology
- Sleep disordered breathing in children
Research Interests
- Sleep disordered breathing in children
- Respiratory outcomes following preterm birth
Dr. Narang's research on sleep disordered breathing is currently focusing on the prevalence and impact of sleep apnea on children with underlying cardiac disease. Since sleep apnea is easily diagnosed and is a treatable condition, the early diagnosis and prevention of sleep apnea may lessen long-term morbidity associated with this condition.
Dr. Narang is also studying the impact of sleep apnea on children with sickle cell disease, specifically to assess the impact of nocturnal hypoxia on the respiratory health of these children.
Further research interests include the long-term respiratory outcomes of children who were born premature and had chronic lung disease of infancy. Such research will help us to understand the respiratory health of these children as they enter adulthood.
