Leadership development

SickKids recognizes that our managers play an integral role in the development of employees and the achievement of our vision, mission and strategies. At SickKids, all managers are encouraged to attend the The LEAD Program, "Inspiring Today's Managers as Tomorrow's Leaders'. Attendees experience small lectures, workshops, self-assessments, and coaching in order to solidify their new skills and effectively lead their teams. The foundational skills built during this program are critical to the manager's success.

Participants who complete this program will develop a better understanding of the following:

  • Six key managerial styles, when to use them, as well as their impact on employee climate and Hospital results
  • How to coach, develop, and reward employees
  • How to effectively manage an employee's performance
  • How to understand your own preference when faced with a conflict situation and how to mitigate the conflict
  • The operational side of being a manager within SickKids – learning the milestones in A Year in the Life of a SickKids Manager, as well as on-going programs
  • Leadership Practices and Behaviours based on the SickKids Leadership Model using a unique, innovative approach to learning

Management Speaker Series

To continue the support of our managers and leaders, we offer the SickKids Speaker’s Series on a quarterly basis. Our Speaker Series provides an opportunity for managers to learn the latest information on management and leadership skills from expert, sought-after speakers, as well as network with their management peers across the Hospital. It also allows all of our managers and leaders to learn about the relevant events in the Hospital in a consistent, timely manner.
