A variety of classes are offered across the organization ranging in topic from informatics and technology, to interprofessional clinical care, to management development. Additionally, through the UHN Learning Partnership, SickKids staff have access to the expansive UHN Learning and Development Calendar.
Initiatives such as SCOPE (Strategic Career Opportunities for Professional Excellence) provide professionals with a framework for professional development and career advancement. The structure will allow professionals to map out their individual professional development and promote the philosophy of mentorship and intra and inter-professional learning and collaboration.
The SickKids Simulation Program will provide health-care professionals with access to procedural and team skills development opportunities. Learners are provided access to computerized mannequins and other anatomically realistic training devices to allow them to practice procedural skills in a safe environment. Simulation-based training provides care teams with the opportunity to develop communication, leadership and teamwork skills in preparation for real medical events.
