Asthma

Asthma is the most common chronic (long-term) illness in children. About 10  to 13 per cent of children have asthma. The most common signs of asthma are wheezing, coughing, and trouble catching your breath.

Asthma may affect your child’s lungs for the rest of his life. But with good asthma control, your child can go on to live a perfectly normal life.

There are some ways that you can help your child feel better:

  • Learn more by reading about asthma and asking your doctor questions.
  • Make sure that your child takes all medicines exactly as your doctor tells you to.
  • Triggers are things that make your child’s asthma worse. Know your child's asthma triggers and try to keep your child away from them.
