Staff Continuing Professional Development Fund
SickKids supports the educational and professional development of our staff through the Staff Continuing Professional Development Fund (SCPDF) Program. We are proud to invest in developing our people to meet the needs and demands of children’s health, the delivery of family-centred care, and complex management and leadership within the organization.
The SickKids Staff Continuing Professional Development Fund is guided by the following principles:
- SickKids is committed to supporting continuing learning and professional development.
- All learning supported by SickKids will be prioritized according to alignment with the mission, values and strategic directions of the Hospital.
- Decision-making will be consistent, equitable and transparent.
Staff who are eligible can apply for support to obtain a degree, diploma, professional designation or attend conferences, workshops, seminars and single courses.
A single Advisory Committee has been established to oversee the fund’s policies, procedures and utilization. All clinical applications for funding will be reviewed and evaluated by a subgroup of the Clinical Practice and Operations committee. All corporate and Research Institute-related applications for funding will be reviewed and evaluated by a subgroup of the Corporate Services committee.
Staff are expected to pay all expenses upfront and are reimbursed based on specific criteria. Original receipts must be provided.
Support for tuition is granted for the entire length of the degree, diploma or professional designation program so long as the employee is performing satisfactorily and the program remains relevant to his/her position at SickKids.
All reimbursable expenses for Conferences, Workshops, Seminars and Courses (not part of a degree/diploma/professional designation) will be limited to registration fees, travel (including airport transfers) and accommodation.
The SCPDF Program also supports honorariums and reimbursements for guest speakers/lecturers from other organizations that are invited to participate in educational events/courses for SickKids staff.
