Pre-Admission Program
Take part in the Pre-admission Program at SickKids. This is a fun program that helps children understand and prepare for their operation.
Children can watch a slide show, meet Wally the puppet, play with hospital masks, and take a tour of the hospital.
Parents and older patients are welcome to meet with the program coordinator to discuss what their hospital stay will be like.
Coming for an operation
A nurse will call you a few days before your child’s operation. The nurse will tell you what time to come to the hospital and what your child can eat and drink ahead of time.
You will be given a number to call if you have any questions. If you do not receive a call, please call your doctor’s office.
Parent Tip! Children who come to the Pre-admission Program are usually less anxious about their stay in the hospital.

Virtual tour of the operating room
We have created a "virtual tour" of the operating room (OR) for patents and children who are unable to take the real tour. This virtual tour will also be helpful for those who have taken the real tour, to review what they have learned.
