Scientific Advisory Board

SickKids Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) is comprised of internationally respected research leaders. The SAB advises the Chief of Research, the CEO and the hospital’s board, in order to build on scientific excellence at SickKids. The SAB provides advice on the strategic direction of the Research Institute, helps to establish and monitor key performance indicators, provides feedback on the strengths and areas for development for the Research Institute and leads external reviews of the seven research programs.

SickKids Scientific Advisory Board members:

Dr. Peter Goodfellow, London UK. Formerly the head of the genetics department of the University of Cambridge, Goodfellow was most recently Senior VP at GlaxoSmithKline, where he ran the discovery wing of the world's second largest pharmaceutical company, creating drugs targeted at particular proteins.

Dr. Brigid Hogan Professor and Chair, Department of Cell Biology, Duke University. Prior to joining Duke, Hogan was an investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and Hortense B. Ingram Professor in the Department of Cell Biology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Dr. Hogan also served as head of the Molecular Embryology Laboratory at the National Institute for Medical Research in London.

Dr. Gregory Petsko, Professor of Biochemistry and Chemistry, Brandeis University. Dr. Petsko has twice been a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and has also served as Adjunct Professor of Neurology, Brigham & Women's Hospital at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Fred Rivara, Professor, Pediatrics and Adjunct Professor, Epidemiology at
University of Washington, School of Public Health and Community Medicine. Dr. Rivara is the George Adkins Professor of Pediatrics, at the University of Washington, School of Medicine and in 2005 was elected to membership in the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies.

Dr. David Williams, Leland Fikes Chair in Pediatrics, Department of Pediatrics, Harvard Medical School and Chief, Department of Pediatrics, Children's Hospital Boston. Dr. Williams was an investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute for 16 years and is a member of the National Academy of Sciences Institute of Medicine.
