Beverly Antle Trainee Award
What is the Beverly Antle Trainee Award?
The Beverly Antle Trainee Award is a one-time award aimed at encouraging CHES Trainees to present their work at a conference. Applicants will be eligible for $1000 if presenting at a conference. This award is to cover travel or conference expenses.
Which Conferences Are Eligible?
- the conference date must be six months prior to or following the application deadline; and
- the conference must be relevant to the applicant’s discipline; and
- the conference must be relevant to the applicant’s current research; and
- preference will be given to those attending national or international conferences
Who is Eligible?
- the applicant must be a Trainee registered with the Research Training Centre of the Research Institute at SickKids; and
- ** the applicant’s primary supervisor must be a SickKids staff member and have a Scientist (any level) appointment with the Child Health Evaluative Sciences program at The Research Institute; and
- for those applicants presenting their work at a conference, they also have to present at CHES Rounds;and
- a CHES Trainee may only be awarded this Conference Award once during their training at CHES.
Please note, a (Research) Trainee at SickKids includes:- graduate students pursuing a Masters or PhD; or
- research/clinical fellows pursuing postdoctoral research training
** Your application will not be considered if your primary supervisor is not affiliated with the Child Health Evaluative Sciences program.
Your application will be rated by the CHES-TCA Subcommittee based on four criteria:
- the rigour of the methodology;
- the impact of the research;
- the quality of the abstract; and
- whether the applicant is presenting at a national or international conference.
Rather than using a scoring scheme, your application will be assigned an overall ranking out of five. In the instance that an applicant is being supervised by one of the CHES-TCA Subcommittee members, that subcommittee member will be asked to sit out.
When is the Application Deadline?
There are two competitions per year. The next competition will be taking place in the fall of 2009. Details will follow.
Application Instructions
- Print and complete the application form [Word format] and include it as your cover sheet.
- Applicants must complete an RTC registry form [Acrobat format] which can be found at the Research Training Centre website
Please submit this two-page form to the Research Training Centre (RTC) and include these two pages in your application for this award. - Submit an abstract or summary of your research. (Note that only one abstract will be considered per trainee per competition). There is a 500-word limit; please include a word count at the bottom of your abstract. You are encouraged to present completed work or a work in progress.
