WHAT IS THE SICKKIDS SUMMER RESEARCH PROGRAM?
This program provides opportunities for university students to conduct research in a laboratory/clinical setting at The Hospital for Sick Children under the supervision of a Research Institute Scientist.
The 12-week program runs during the period from May to July. Specific start dates are arranged directly with the hiring Scientists. The program includes weekly seminars presented by Hospital and Research Institute staff members. The final event of the program is the Annual Summer Student Symposium. At the Symposium, most students present the results of their summer projects in poster format while five outstanding students present orally. Awards are presented to select students with exceptional research projects.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
At the time of application, students must be in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of an undergraduate degree program. Students in medical school may also apply. (Please note: We will not be participating in the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience program for the 2008 summer.) Students registered in an MSc/MA or a PhD program are not eligible for summer studentships.
WHAT IS FUNDED?
The stipend is $4,800 (based on an hourly rate of $11.43 for a 35-hour week) for the 12-week program. The SickKids Summer Research Program provides a portion of the stipend and the supervisor provides the balance. Students accepted in to the program may also apply through their supervisor for external funding.
