Pre-Operative Preparation Program
Is your child coming to SickKids for surgery or a procedure under general anaesthesia?
Is your child between the ages of three to 12 years of age?
Then consider attending the Pre-Operative Preparation Program.
This is a fun and educational group program that helps children and their families prepare for general anaesthesia.
You and your child will meet with a Pre-anaesthesia Nurse and a Child Life Specialist. This one hour program includes information and interactive play for you and your child. Your child will have the opportunity to look at pictures and play with medical equipment. You will have an opportunity to ask questions to help prepare you and your child for his/her surgery or procedure.
We suggest that you bring your child one to two weeks prior to surgery or procedure.
Sessions occur:
Tuesdays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., for children aged 3 to 6 years
Thursdays from 2 to 3 p.m., for children aged 7 to 12 years
*An individual session can be arranged for teens.
**For children with disabilities or special needs an individual session can be arranged.
