Virtual tour of the operating room

Welcome to The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids). Soon you will be having an operation. We hope this tour will help you get ready for your operation and answer some of your questions. We have provided this virtual tour of the operating room to help you learn about your hospital stay.

SickKids has a Pre-Admission Program that welcomes all children's and their families to attend. Take this virtual tour if you can't attend the Pre-admission Program in person, or simply to review what you have learned if you have already attended the Pre-admission Program.

The picture on the right shows a typical screen that you will see when you take the virtual tour. Please read these instructions to help you understand how to move through the tour.

  • The tour is divided into six areas. You can visit each section by clicking on the button for that area.
  • This box shows the layout of the rooms the area of the tour you are visiting.
  • The red line shows where you can move forward or backwards to go from one blue circle to another.
  • The orange arrow-head shows where you are in the tour and which direction you are facing

  • Clicking on the forward and back arrows allows you to move along the red lines in the room. The forward and back arrows will not be shown unless you are pointed in the direction of one of the red lines.
  • Clicking on the left and right arrows allows you to turn around to view the things in the room. The left and right arrows will not be shown when you are moving along the red lines between the blue circles.

  • Clicking on the up and down arrows allows you to look up and down. There are two places in the tour (the Patient's View in the Operating Room, and the balcony outside the Waiting Room) where these buttons will be shown.

The virtual tour takes about two or three minutes to completely load if you have a high speed Internet connection. However, you can begin to view the tour before loading is complete. The buttons for each area will appear as the loading begins for that area, and the blue circles will appear when that view in the area is loaded.

There is sound that accompanies the text introduction to each area, so if your computer has speakers, you should turn on the sound.

Please note: The Tour requires Flash plug-in. Download Flash if you do not have it installed on your computer.

***Update - SickKids is renovating its Same Day Admit Unit (SDAU) but there will be minimal impact on your experience. Please see our "Dear Parent" letter for more information..***
